APRIL 2012

News

Last weekend saw the holding of the club's April competiton and weigh in.
In all eight members weighed in fish which was a good turnout seeing that the weather decided not to cooperate on Sunday.
In the offshore division Les Toth led the way with 13 kgs of fish which included beat the board Bonito .645kgs, leather jacket .695kgs flathead 1.63kgs and a Trevally of .3kgs which was also one of the fish of the month.
His deckie Errol Nunnan was bit quieter this month with 6.5kgs and a beat the board Flounder at .355kgs, Les must of pulled rank on him this month.
The Prossers were out in force as usual with John having 2.5kgs including the other fish of the month a Maori Wrasse of .34kgs and a beat the board Gurnard a .42kgs.
Pity about that shark Cheryl, they are a no no.
All the rest of the fishos fished the estuaries with the overlanders Max Childs and Lorraine Burt travelling all the way to Sussex Inlet for bahs of 2.3kgs for Max and 2.4kgs for Lorraine.
Dave Quinn as there also with .9kgs.
Something about too busy playing bowls I heard, your truly Mal, fished close to hame as usual for 1.1kgs.
That was all for the weigh ins, a bit quieter than usual but a good effort anyway.
Thanks must go as usual to all those who did their bit to make the rest of the day a success.
Members are reminded to not forget the fishos raffle every Wednesday night, drawn 6.30pm. That's all for now until next month, The Pres.

MARCH 2012

NEWS

Last weekend was the holding of our March fishing competition weigh in, in conjunction with our picnic day.
In all 11 members weighed in, quite good really considering the weather did not play fair with high winds in for the saturday easing slightly on Sunday.
But this did not deter out interpid anglers from venturing forth.
Five anglers contested the off shore department.
Leading the way Errol Nunnan with a healthy bag of 9kgs closely followed in the same boat by Les Toth with 7.9 kgs which included a BTB Maori Wrasse at .75 kgs.
Brad Ginns was there also with a top bag of 8.8kgs made up with the help of a BTB pigfish of .765kgs and a fish of the month Morowong of 1.4kgs.
Cheryl and John Prosser with bags of 2.2kgs and 3.8 kgs, John also having BTB Red Rock Cod of .76kgs.
There was only one angler that was game enough to venture out on to the rocks- John Clayton grabbed the other fish of the month a mullet of .2kgs which was also the only one weighed in so far this year.
All the rest of the anglers spent the weekend terrorising the lakes as usual.
They were led by the same boat duo of Lorraine Burt and Max Childs with 4.2 and 4.1 kgs.
Lorraine also had a BTB bream of .775kg.
Then there was the Penfols with Rex having .96kgs and Margaret 1.7kgs fancy letting somebody fishing off the jetty beat you Rex.
We wont mention the bait used will we.
Graham Carriage was there also with esky with a total of .6kgs.
The mystery weight prize was also won by Lorraine Burt.
After the weigh in all present enjoyed a well cooked barbeque and also some delicious prawms supplied and well presented by the club's Swordfish Restaurant and staff.
Thanks must go as usual to all those that done theri bit in the cooking, ticket selling, preparing and all those things that made the day the sucess it was.

JANUARY 2012

NEWS

Well, its on again, with this weekend being the first competition for the 2012 season.
What a complete sucess it was too. with a total of 14 anglers weighing in, an an effort to get some vital points on the board early in the season.
In the offshore division, Erroll Nunnan led the way with a total of 10.54 kilos, which included neat the boards Leather Jacket 0.615 kilos, Gunard 0.35kilos and Pigfish 0.385kilos ( he must have picked the right end of thhe boat right from the start this year).
Then came his skipper Les Toth, with a total of 5.67kilos, who also weighed in some beat the board hopefuls, only to have them beaten later on. Better luck next time.
Our friendly butcher, Brad Ginns was there also, with a total of 5.2kilos, including beat the boards of Snapper 0.915kilos and Redfish 0.19kilos, well done.
The husband and wife team of John and Cheryl Prosser were there too. with John having .98kilos, including a Maori Wrasse of .35kilos. Cheryl led the way though, with a total of 2.10kilos, thats the way to show him how its done.
The rock and beach duo of Wayne Drury came in with a whopping total of 6.98kilos and mixed in where beat the boards Salmon 1.5kilos, Whiting 0.37kilos and a Tailor of 0.47kilos, followed by David Quinn with 1.69kilos and also a equal weight Whiting of 0.37kilos- must have been standing on the rock next door.
Let's not forget the estuary gang. The partners in crome twosome of Max Childs and Lorraine Burt led the way. Max had a good solid catch of 7.39kilos, which included a Bream of 0.715kilos and Lorraine just pipped him at the post with an 8.1kilo catch. What must have hurt Max was that Lorraine had (an all th way from Burrill Lake) Dusky Flathead of 2kilos and its only early in the year.
The other two from the back of Burrill Lake, visitors Margaret and Max Penfold, just happened to arrive into town for the weekend fishing. Margaret caught 0.72kilo of fish and Rex, a total of 2.45kilos- a pity about all those beat the boards. They just did not quite make it this time, but heard about them trying to weigh in a certain of species of fish and claim it was a monster Garfish, it is believed the fish's name was Tom.
Rex's neighbour, Dave Stevens(from two houses down on the lake) also ventured out and came back with a bag of 1.9kilos- believe Dave caught a Gurnard but let it go because it looked too pretty to keep.
Yours truly Mal, also made a short comeback with a bag of just 9kilos-watch out next month and Graham Carriage 0.455kilos.
No fish of the month was caught and the mystery weight went to Rex Penfold.
All those who weighed in received a bonus prize of calendars and rule books and stickers kindly supplied by the Fisheries Department.
Thanks must go as usual , to the cooks; the raffle ticket sellers; all those who donated part of their catch for the raffle and those that helped to make the day the sucess it was.
All members are reminded that membership fees are due.
The club is looking for new members , particular in the fishing department and anyone interested in joining the club, see the club's noticeboard for details.
